The Golden Isle Shag Club was started in 1989 --

The Mission of the Golden Isle Shag Club is to promote and preserve the heritage of beach/Carolina shag music by educating and teaching others the art of shag dancing and providing our members and guest dance opportunities. Informing our members and the Shag community of beach/shag music and shag dancing activities in our area.

We welcome all newcomers and dancers of all of swing styles.out Come out and have fun dancing with us.

Beach, Boogie & Shag

Our music is swing, R&B, Blues, country swing and some Latin swing music. It is that 4/4 danceable beat that is irresistible and gets you on the dance floor. Examples: the Temptations, The Drifters, The Embers, Delbert McClinton, Josh Turner, BB King

The Shag:

Born in the dance clubs of South Carolina in the 40's as a blend of the Jitter Bug, Lindy Hop and the Jive, the slowed down smooth style of footwork created in Afro-American clubs morphed into the Carolina Shag. With each generation the dance has evolved with the music and lives today in Shag Clubs everywhere.
